Creative TailorCompany: Gieves & HawkesBiography: After graduating from the University of Northumbria with a degree in fashion, Joanne went to New York and worked for Anna Sui – whose collection is sold in 300 stores in over 30 countries – helping with patterns, cutting, designing graphics and preparing for catwalk shows.
She then went to London to work for a “corset couturier”, learning how to cut and make boned corsets. But Joanne had always wanted to work on the world famous Savile Row, so was thrilled when she was offered trials with tailors Gieves and Hawkes, which led her to being offered an apprenticeship. Now a qualified tailor, Joanne proved her ability when she was crowned winner of the 2005 Golden Shears competition, which gave marks for design, cutting and handcraft tailoring skills.
